How the shop works, in plain terms. Read this before you book and pickup goes smoother.
Ben’s Gunsmithing is a home-based, appointment-only shop near Noxon, Montana. These are the ground rules that keep the work honest and the handoff clean. Questions on any of it? Call or text 406-242-0803.
Appointments
Appointment only. No walk-ins. Schedule by phone or text.
- Availability varies, typically business days, with after-hours appointments possible when it works for you.
- Same-day appointments are allowed when the schedule has room.
- If you need to cancel, a day-before heads-up is appreciated.
- A $35 fee applies after three consecutive cancellations in a month, or a no-show without notice.
Pricing & rates
- Shop rate $65/hr. Most jobs are quoted at a flat rate so you know the cost before work starts.
- Minimum charge $35.
- Diagnostic fee $60 for disassembly and reassembly, in addition to the cost of any repair.
- Rush service is available when the schedule permits, priced by the expense involved.
- Same-day cleaning by appointment carries a $25 non-refundable booking deposit, applied to the service cost.
Turnaround
Generally 2 to 3 weeks. Turnaround is discussed at drop-off and varies with the current workload and parts availability.
Payment
- Accepted: cash, check, Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal.
- Payment is generally due at pickup.
- Deposits are required for special orders and for some repairs and customizations.
- For unsafe firearms, costs must be paid before the firearm leaves the shop.
Drop-off & pickup
- Bring your repair stub for a smoother pickup.
- The same person who drops off should pick up. If someone else picks up, a NICS check is required.
- ID is required only when the pickup person differs from the person who dropped off.
- Overnight storage requires a copy of a driver’s license or government ID.
Storage & abandonment
- You have a 30-day pickup window after we notify you the work is complete.
- After 30 days, a $1/day storage fee applies.
- After 60 days, the firearm is considered abandoned and may be disposed of at the shop’s discretion.
Unsafe firearms
If a firearm is found unsafe, it must be repaired or rendered inoperable before it is released. Any costs are paid before pickup. This is about your safety and ours; there are no exceptions.
Liability & licensing
Ben’s Gunsmithing operates under a Type 07 FFL (manufacturer). FFL # [FFL # TODO].
Work is performed with care and to accepted gunsmithing practice. The shop is not liable for pre-existing defects, prior modifications, or issues arising from ammunition, parts, or conditions outside the work performed. The shop does not currently carry insurance on customer firearms; firearms are left at the owner’s risk.
FAQ
Do you take walk-ins?
No. The shop is appointment only. Call or text to set a time, and the address is shared once your appointment is confirmed.
How long will my job take?
Generally 2 to 3 weeks. You’ll get a better estimate at drop-off based on the work and parts involved.
What will it cost?
Most jobs are flat-rated and quoted at drop-off. The shop rate is $65/hr, the minimum charge is $35, and the diagnostic fee is $60 when disassembly is needed.
How can I pay?
Cash, check, Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal, generally at pickup. Some work requires a deposit up front.
Can someone else pick up my firearm?
Yes, but a NICS check is required if the person picking up is not the person who dropped off. Bring a government ID.
Do you offer same-day service?
Same-day cleaning is available by appointment with a $25 booking deposit applied to the service. Other rush work depends on the schedule and is priced by the expense involved.
How do I check on my job?
Use the Job Status page with the ticket number from your drop-off stub. We’ll also reach out when the work is done.
